Changing focus
When we started living with the Ayta Abellen, we were overwhelmed by the many needs, primarily tuberculosis. Roger took training in microscopy so we could detect tuberculosis cases faster. This was effective as long as we were in the village but with our switch to working with three language groups on Bible translation instead of just one, it didn't make sense any longer for us to continue to try meet all the needs ourselves. About the time we realized our inability to meet the needs, we came in contact with an organization named Medical Ambassadors of the Philippines (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Medical-Ambassadors-Philippines/124330174285748?v=info) and Dr. Maria Cariaga. A partnership was formed for a three year project aiming to minister to the Ayta Abellen people in the village of Tangantangan through providing various health services and health education. Julius and Oliver are two nurses who serve with Medical Ambassadors of the Philippines in Tangantangan.
